Paul Wyse has major portraits in North America's most important collections, including the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute (Washington D.C.), the House of Commons of Canada and the Steinway Hall historical portrait collection (New York). His list of portraits includes Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, pop legend Billy Joel, Pulitzer Prize winning author Toni Morrison, Kennedy Center Award winning conductor and pianist Leon Fleisher,  Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons Peter Milliken, and Harry Connick Jr., among others.

 

His work has appeared in major publications including the BBC, Rolling Stone, and Life Magazine's “Best Photos of 2011”.  On television, he was followed on Bravo’s “Star Portraits” series, painting Blue Rodeo Star, Jim Cuddy, and has been featured on Access Hollywood, Fox 5 New York, and WNNY Watertown. Other works have appeared as cover images of the American Liszt Society's Bicentennial Catalogue and the Keyboard Companion, and his career was highlighted in an in-depth documentary from North Country Public Radio.

 

A prize winner in many competitions, he was the recipient of the Best Portrait Award in The Portrait Society of Canada's national competition, the Honor Award in the 2012 Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition, and the 2nd Place Merit Award in the Portrait Society of America's Member's only Competition. He was trained by some of the world's foremost teachers including Everett Raymond Kinstler and Daniel Greene, with a full classical background in drawing and painting from the Atelier de Brésoles (Montréal), and supplementary courses from the Art Student’s League of New York.

 

His first studies were in music. Before becoming a portrait artist, he appeared in concert in prestigious venues such as Avery Fischer Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and before the Royal Family of Monaco, performing alongside such greats as Michael Tilson-Thomas, Vladimir Feltsman, and Gloria Estefan. Through the lineage of his musical mentors, he carries on a tradition that can be traced through the legendary masters Artur Schnabel and Karl Czerny, which leads directly back to Ludwig van Beethoven.
